The second structure on the museum grounds of the Historical Society was started in 1974 and completed in 1977. The 40' X 80' building utililzes peeled pine poles to hold a tin roof over the concrete floor and frame and/or tin walls. Taylor Whatley carried the burden of construction with W.H. Francis and Earle Williams making major contributions. Also of great help were Vaughan Terry and Albert Whatley. The Taylor Whatley Buildling houses some of the most interesting artifacts of Farming, Timber, and Rural Life. Some outstanding offerings are: a cotton gin, Doctor's buggy, wooden wagon, a still, Farmall tractor, road cart, cider press, several plows, churns, as well as many, many other items. In 1999, Jonathan Campbell from Troup 29, Auburn, Alabama, completed his Eagle Scout project in the Taylor Whatley Building. His initial inventory, organization, and displays have continued to grow and improve over the last few years.
